Therapy can be a safe, welcoming, empowering, and validating space for LGBTQIA+ identifying people. It is important to know that your therapist is competent and compassionate in supporting you. At Kalamazoo Therapy Group, we strive to create a safe space for those who have perhaps had a hard time finding safe spaces in the past.

Whether or not navigating your identity is your main concern, we understand the complex and unique issues that can arise for you. Counseling at Kalamazoo Therapy Group might include but are not limited to:

  • Exploring and processing gender identity
  • Exploring and processing sexual/romantic orientation
  • Navigating social stigma, discrimination, and oppression
  • Coming out to friends, family, coworkers, etc.
  • Navigating complex relationships
  • Coping with anxiety, stress, depression, substance use, self-harm, or suicidal thoughts
  • Other life challenges that may not be related to your identity
LGBTQIA+ Counseling Services

Affirming and respectful mental health services are vitally important due to the stigma, prejudice, discrimination, and oppression you may face in society, we want you to know that here it is safe to be you.

As an LGBTQIA+ identifying person, you deserve to have affirming mental health services and yet we understand that not all therapists are equipped personally or professionally to best support you on your journey.

While all of our therapists are supportive to the LGBTQIA+ community, Emily Dean is specialized and passionate about working with individuals who identify within this community.
