What type of client excites you?

I honor the courage it takes every client to engage with counseling and am excited to learn from my clients. I’m especially interested in supporting people through life-stage transitions, times of grief and loss, and gender, sexuality, spiritual & racial identity development

What can clients expect when they first come to therapy? How would you describe a typical session with you?

I believe wholeheartedly in client agency and seek to support individuals’ inner wisdom. When we meet for the first time I will share some about myself so that clients might best determine if I am the right counselor for them. It is important to me that clients feel comfortable and able to be themselves with me.

Deciding how our sessions unfold from there will be a joint effort. My approach is client-led, curious and responsive and I am comfortable taking the lead if/when that feels most supportive. Our sessions may include talk therapy, expressive arts therapy, somatic/body awareness, visualization, psychoeducation, goal setting, and tool/skill sharing.

What is your personal style as a therapist?

My style as a therapist is grounded, authentic, clear, and open. Through dialog, psychoeducation, and creative expression, I support clients in exploring their needs and collaborate with clients to find the right approach to meeting those needs.

How do you believe therapy can be beneficial?

As social beings, being witnessed and held in our experience are basic human needs. I believe counseling provides that. I also find therapy beneficial in its ability to create a container for deep exploration and awareness about the human experience and our own unique selves. Through the co-regulation offered in therapy, we can face complexity without shame.

What do you think are the most important considerations when looking for a therapist?

It is important to know that a therapist is properly trained and credentialed. Beyond that, I think the most important considerations are: can I bring my truest self to the room? And can this therapist work with me the way I want to work (for instance, setting goals or somatic practice, etc)?

What do you hope your clients walk away with?

My hope is that clients walk away from therapy feeling more connected, to themselves and the world around them. A greater sense of agency, awareness of self and ability to move more freely in their lives.
