LMFT

(she/her/hers)

Miranda is trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and is passionate about supporting adolescents and young adults experiencing identity development, grief and loss, and complex trauma. Her approach is often referred to as genuine and playful. She especially enjoys working with the LGBTQIA+ community.

Miranda is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in both Michigan and California and has extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Human Development and Family Studies at Michigan State University and proceeded to earn her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego. Miranda is also currently working to achieve her Doctor of Philosophy in Counselor Education and Supervision at Western Michigan University.

Miranda’s therapeutic approach is often described as authentic, playful, and warm. She believes that finding connection and building a relationship with a client are the foundation for any therapeutic success. She prioritizes creating an environment where clients can feel comfortable and supported while being themselves and feel encouraged to approach difficult things in therapy. Miranda believes that therapy is most successful when the therapist and client can come together as two people doing the work together. This belief creates an opportunity for clients to collaborate and have an active role and voice in making therapy be the experience they want it to be. She also works to find a balance of both change and acceptance at the same time in the therapeutic process.

Actor Elliot Page was quoted saying, “when we’re growing up there are all sorts of people telling us what to do, when really what we need is space to work out who to be.” Although ‘growing up’ often leads us to think of children and teens, this idea applies to people of all ages. Miranda aims to bring this idea to life in therapy sessions, and cares deeply about creating a space with clients to allow them to explore their own goals, wants, values, needs, and identity in a meaningful way. She believes that while she herself has the training in therapy, the clients are ultimately the experts on themselves.

Miranda engages clients in dialogue, self reflection, brainstorming, and genuine communication about the life they desire. She encourages exploration of ideas and goals as well as creative strategies to get those goals met. Though there are some structured aspects to Miranda’s approach, the therapy is driven overall by what the clients need from the therapeutic relationship. Clients can expect to use hands-on tools to help engage them in learning and developing what they would like to from the therapy session, in addition to verbal discussions.

Prior to her time as a therapist, Miranda also has a background in nonprofit work that supports children and families, human wellness and human rights, as well as teaching toddlers and elementary schoolers. Though it was a different career track initially, Miranda brings together all of these into her therapy, and is passionate about helping clients feel supported as they people they are now, as well as in becoming the people they want to be. You are likely to witness Miranda ‘geeking out’ during opportunities to teach clients about emotions, the brain, and relationships. There may or may not be some excited white board drawings involved in the process. Miranda really enjoys working with clients that are experiencing identity development and exploration, grief and loss, issues related to traumatic experiences, including complex trauma.
