she/her

Carly’s work is focused on disordered eating, ADHD, and life transitions for young adults. She will help guide you through developing greater self-compassion and insight by fostering growth and empowerment amidst life’s challenges. She is passionate about providing a therapeutic relationship that feels safe, equitable, and authentic – as well as lighthearted and humorous when possible.

Carly Lacelle is a Limited Licensed Psychologist. She earned dual degrees (Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Bachelor of Arts in Women and Gender Studies) from the University of Dayton, followed by a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University.

Carly has worked in private practice since 2019, providing both counseling and psychological testing to individuals across the lifespan. Her clinical interests include: life transitions, unresolved trauma, depression and anxiety, women’s issues, and ADHD testing and counseling. Carly also works with individuals experiencing eating disorders and disordered eating (overeating, emotional eating, chronic dieting, binge eating, restriction, and compensatory behaviors, etc.) using an integrated approach that includes somatic psychotherapy, self-compassion, and mindfulness.

Carly’s therapeutic style is easygoing and supportive, creating a space where clients can unload their worries, explore their experiences, and feel genuinely heard. She believes that meaningful change begins with self-understanding; we cannot change what we do not recognize. Many unhelpful patterns are rooted in efforts to meet emotional needs or avoid harm, even if those efforts no longer serve us. Therapy helps bring these patterns to light in a way that is compassionate and nonjudgmental, allowing clients to respond with greater intention rather than react out of habit. With insight, kindness, and a strong therapeutic relationship, real and lasting growth becomes possible.

In sessions, Carly blends humor and authenticity, along with compassion and candidness, tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs. She views therapy as a collaborative process rooted in open dialogue, creative problem-solving, and meaningful connection… plus the occasional off-the-wall joke.

The Lord of the Rings character Samwise Gamgee once said, “I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you.” While he was referring to his inability to help Frodo destroy a malevolent ring forged to dominate the free peoples of Middle-earth, Carly sees this quote as a reflection of her therapeutic philosophy. A counselor cannot carry a client’s heavy burden for them, but they can walk alongside them every step of the way. No one should have to face life’s challenges alone, and with the right support, clients can feel empowered and courageous enough to overcome whatever stands in their way.

Before joining Kalamazoo Therapy Group, Carly worked in the Kalamazoo Public Schools as a site coordinator. There, she partnered with families and community organizations to address trauma, substance use, housing instability, grief, and other barriers to student well-being through culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate care.
