Getting to Know Defensiveness: a VIRTUAL gathering

March 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

We all do it sometimes. We experience something that triggers a part of us to guard and defend. This defensiveness, while sometimes an appropriate, protective strategy, oftentimes creates a barrier between us and the people we most care about. It even creates a barrier between us and ourselves. When we fall into a defensive stance, we have blinders on that prevent us from seeing a full situation. With these blinders on, it is nearly impossible to respond appropriately to what the situation might call for. Together, we will take a unique perspective in understanding why we get so defensive, identify strategies to stop, and learn how we can show up with our loved ones when they, themselves, have blinders and are in a state of defense.

About the facilitator

Kelsey Nimmo is a Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Sex Therapist, and Relationship Coach. She has spent over ten years supporting couples in fostering more emotional and physical intimacy in their relationships through a unique approach in prioritizing the wholeness of each individual within the partnership.

Kelsey believes that to create and maintain the depth of connection and fulfillment we each desire with another human we care deeply for, we must find a way to learn and integrate our own personal development. Through individual growth, health, and wholeness, we can only then show up in our fullness with compassion, love, generosity, and acceptance.

While we often think of relationships as having the goal of “connection,” Kelsey supports couples in learning to navigate and find resilience for the naturally occurring coming together and falling apart that every relationship will endure throughout its lifetime. Guiding couples to learn to hold and honor these times of transition (and times of disconnect) while not losing sight of individual needs and well-being (and not holding onto them too rigidly), she seeks to help couples step into a new sense of love and depth in their relationships that they may have never experienced before.

Kelsey offers individual counseling as well as relationship coaching, and facilitates groups and events related to grief, meditation, and relationship intelligence.
