Nick Rau is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in multiple states. He earned his Master’s degree in Social Work from Grand Valley University. He works with individuals aged ten years and older.
Nick has previously spent six years working in community mental health on the West Coast increasing his ability to work with multiple cultures, languages, and environments. Through his travels, he has realized that it is not necessarily about the environment or the objects around you but the connection you have with the person you are interacting with. Therefore, his approach is focusing on the rapport between therapist and client in order to support the client in feeling comfortable and welcomed. His calm presence and focused approach holds space for his clients to process what they are experiencing as well as other worldly circumstances that surround them.
Nick’s approach is focused on meeting the client where they are at. He enjoys discussing with the client how they want the session structured and what they are hoping to gain from these therapy sessions. He feels it is important to have a plan when it comes to therapy and therefore providing different things to consider in-between sessions is a common occurrence. Nick likes to include humor in sessions and can often be found laughing at his own jokes.
Nick is passionate about working with clients that are interested in creating positive changes in their lives. Internal motivation, he believes, plays a huge part in gaining control over yourself and the environment around you. People can do astounding things if they only believe in themselves and that can start with someone else believing in them first.
