SUMMARY:Getting to Know Defensiveness: a VIRTUAL gathering
DESCRIPTION:We all do it sometimes. We experience something that triggers a part of us to guard and defend. This defensiveness\, while sometimes an appropriate\, protective strategy\, oftentimes creates a barrier between us and the people we most care about. It even creates a barrier between us and ourselves. When we fall into a defensive stance\, we have blinders on that prevent us from seeing a full situation. With these blinders on\, it is nearly impossible to respond appropriately to what the situation might call for. Together\, we will take a unique perspective in understanding why we get so defensive\, identify strategies to stop\, and learn how we can show up with our loved ones when they\, themselves\, have blinders and are in a state of defense. \nDetails \nWho: Individuals or couples (18+) \nWhen: Monday\, March 23 from 6:30-8:30pm \nWhere: Online \nCost: $65 for individuals\, $90 for couples \nFacilitated by: Kelsey Nimmo\, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist & Certified Sex Therapist \nRegister Now \n  \nThis event will include… \n\nIntroductions\nA brief meditation\nPsychoeducation about the nature of defensiveness\, how and why it prevents in ourselves\, and how to \nA brief community discussion\n\n  \nYou’ll walk away with an understanding of… \n\nThe nature of defensiveness and how it tends to present in relationships\nThe destructive capacity of defensiveness and how it can significantly restrict the emotional honesty and intimacy between you and your partner\nHow to notice when you are being defensive and how to stop\nHow to handle when someone else is defensive\n\nAbout the facilitator \nKelsey Nimmo is a Marriage and Family Therapist\, Certified Sex Therapist\, and Relationship Coach. She has spent over ten years supporting couples in fostering more emotional and physical intimacy in their relationships through a unique approach in prioritizing the wholeness of each individual within the partnership. \nKelsey believes that to create and maintain the depth of connection and fulfillment we each desire with another human we care deeply for\, we must find a way to learn and integrate our own personal development. Through individual growth\, health\, and wholeness\, we can only then show up in our fullness with compassion\, love\, generosity\, and acceptance. \nWhile we often think of relationships as having the goal of “connection\,” Kelsey supports couples in learning to navigate and find resilience for the naturally occurring coming together and falling apart that every relationship will endure throughout its lifetime. Guiding couples to learn to hold and honor these times of transition (and times of disconnect) while not losing sight of individual needs and well-being (and not holding onto them too rigidly)\, she seeks to help couples step into a new sense of love and depth in their relationships that they may have never experienced before. \nKelsey offers individual counseling as well as relationship coaching\, and facilitates groups and events related to grief\, meditation\, and relationship intelligence. \nTo register\nPlease complete the form below. We’ll set up a secure client portal for you using your date of birth where you can complete registration. SUMMARY:Together\, on Purpose: a premarital education experience
DESCRIPTION:This event takes place during the following times: \n\nSaturday\, March 28th: 9am to 3pm\nSaturay\, April 11th: 9am to 3pm\nSaturday\, April 25th: 9am to 3pm & 6pm-8pm\n\nThe curriculum will be compounded from start to finish\, so your participation for the entirety of the course is encouraged. \nEvent Details\nWe spend so much time\, energy\, and money investing in the WEDDING\, but the real value is in the MARRIAGE. \nThis intimate virtual workshop is designed for almost-married and newly-married couples (18 and older) who want to intentionally invest in the foundation of their relationship\, not just the celebration of it. \nRegistration for this event closes on March 15th. \nWhat can we gain from this premarital education event?\nDuring 18 hours of guided education\, you and your partner will engage in meaningful relationship skill-building\, reflective exercises\, group discussions\, and supportive dialogue. This experience goes beyond theory. It’s about learning how to live your values together\, especially when things get hard. \nBecause this virtual workshop is limited to just 5 couples\, the experience is deeply personal. The small-group setting allows space for thoughtful processing\, real questions\, honest conversations\, and individualized support. \nTogether\, you will:\n\nDeepen your relationship intelligence and communication skills so you’re better equipped to navigate conflict\, change\, and stress in the years ahead\n\nLearn how to show up as your best\, most grounded self within your marriage\n\nPractice engaging with integrity\, accountability\, and emotional wholeness\n\nShatter harmful myths about marriage and replace them with realistic\, supportive expectations that can sustain you for decades\n\nBuild meaningful community and long-term connections with other couples who share similar values\, intentions\, and insight\n\nCelebrate your growth and new perspective through a virtual vow celebration\, surrounded by your new community of marriage supporters\n\n\nThis education event is a conscious pause before (or just after) marriage to ask: How do we want to build a life together\, and who do we need to become to do that? \nIf you’re ready to invest in the relationship that comes after the wedding day\, this virtual workshop is for you. \nWhat is the Vow Ceremony?\nAs this virtual workshop wraps up\, you and your partner will share a deeper understanding of each other\, as well as your future together. This connection deserves to be celebrated! A vow ceremony\, held with sacredness and reverence in this virtual space amongst your peers\, will be an opportunity to bear witness to the other participants of what you have developed with your partner over the previous hours of learning and discovery.  \nThe vows you make on your wedding day will be a treasure you and your partner will cherish forever. The vow ceremony in this virtual workshop will take on a particularly deep meaning when shared amongst the other participants\, who have taken the steps to learn and grow together with their partners alongside you and yours. This ceremony is one chance (of many to come) to demonstrate a unity with your partner that will stand the test of time. And you may even be surprised to discover a desire to use these uniquely authentic and intimate vows at your actual wedding – for your community to witness as well! \nThe vow ceremony will be held between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM on the final day of the virtual workshop (Saturday\, April 25). \nWhat is the cost\, and why? \n\nEarly bird enrollment (now through March 1st) is $795 per couple\nEnrollment between March 2nd and March 8th will be $895 per couple\n\nPrivate couples therapy with Kelsey costs $250 per 75 minute session\, and many couples wait months for availability. This 18 hour virtual workshop provides the equivalent of multiple months of high-quality therapeutic education and guided support in a structured and accessible format.  \nMore importantly\, the cost reflects the belief that preparing for marriage is one of the most impactful investments a couple can make. The skills you build here support communication\, emotional safety\, intimacy\, and resilience through future transitions\, challenges\, and seasons of change. \nUnderstandably\, $795-$895 may seem like a grand investment\, and it is. To shift the perspective\, the average cost of a wedding in the U.S. is around $30\,000. This number reflects just the event itself: ceremony\, reception\, food\, venue\, photography\, etc. and doesn’t account for the many years ahead when a couple will be navigating life’s stresses\, transitions\, and growth together.  \nWhile you may choose to add the cost of this virtual workshop to your wedding budget\, this is not an expense for your wedding day.\nIt is an investment in the life you are building together. \nAbout the facilitator\nKelsey Nimmo is a Marriage and Family Therapist\, Certified Sex Therapist\, and Relationship Coach. SUMMARY:After the Fire: Rupture and Repair - a Virtual Group
DESCRIPTION:After the Fire is a virtual group offered by Curando with the support of Kalamazoo Therapy Group. \nRegister Now \nBetrayal\, whether through infidelity\, secrecy\, or broken trust\, can feel like a wildfire in our closest relationships. What once felt safe no longer does. Familiar landmarks disappear. In the aftermath\, many people feel quietly pressured to fix it fast\, forgive prematurely\, or decide the future before their nervous system has stabilized and a truthful path forward can even be made. \nAfter the Fire is a virtual group for people navigating the aftermath of a break of trust. Drawing on ecological succession – the process by which ecosystems recover after wildfires- this group offers a compassionate framework for healing. Participants are invited to slow down and examine what truly changed after the rupture\, in order to craft a loving path for the future. Through guided reflection & gentle dialogue\, participants learn to distinguish early stabilization from deeper intimacy\, and to release unrealistic expectations about “going back to how things were.” \nThis offering is ideal for: \n\nPeople navigating infidelity\, secrecy\, emotional betrayal\, or trust rupture.\nIt is for those seeking a non-pathologizing\, ecological lens for understanding rupture.\nIt supports partners learning to distinguish stabilization from intimacy.\nPeople wanting to normalize slow and nonlinear healing.\nThose exploring the conditions necessary for relational regeneration.\nPartners who want to make informed\, consent-based decisions about repair or separation.\n\nThis is not a forgiveness workshop. There is no pressure to reconcile\, no moral hierarchy between staying and leaving\, and no expectation to return to closeness before safety exists. Instead\, this work centers expansiveness and truth. \nIf this resonates\, or if you have been searching for a way to understand relational devastation without rushing through the process\, I would be honored to work with you. \nDetails & registration: \n\n\n\nFacilitated by Alessandra Santos-Pye\nTuesdays & Thursdays in April via ZOOM\n6-8 PM\, EST\n8 gatherings total\n$350 per participant\nRegistration deadline: February 26th\nWorkbook included\n\n\n\nRegister Now \nAbout the Facilitator\nAlessandra Santos Pye\, or Ally Pye (she/her/hers) is a psychotherapist\, psychedelic assisted therapist\, ceremonialist\, educator\, facilitator\, consultant\, artist\, reiki practitioner\, and budding herbalist. SUMMARY:April Grief Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Grief has a powerful way of unsettling us—shaking emotions to the surface\, shaping how we experience our world. We invite you to join us each month for a supportive space to gather in community. Together\, we will honor the many forms of loss that may arise\, whether that is: \n\nThe death of a loved one\nDivorce or end of a significant relationship\nLiving with a chronic illness\nLoss of a job\, role\, or meaningful activity that shaped your identity\nReleasing a vision or dream you’ve held\nSorry for suffering in the wider world\nSomething else entirely\n\nThis gathering offers space to witness\, share\, and gently tend to grief in all its forms. \nRegister Now \nDetails\n\nWho: Adults ages 18 and up of all identities and backgrounds\nWhen: Tuesday\, April 28th from 6-7:30pm\nWhere: Kalamazoo Therapy Group\, 1901 Parkview Avenue\nCost: Pay what you can from $20-60\nFacilitated by: Kelsey Nimmo\, LMFT\, LPC\nSeats available: 8 (therefore registration is required for this event)\n\n\nEach month\, we will gather for 90 minutes in a small\, supportive circle of people who know the raw\, tender\, and oftentimes illuminating experience of grief. Together\, we will create a sacred and confidential container where grief can be expressed\, and safely held. \nWhatever you are grieving—whether a person\, event\, identity\, or experience—this gathering offers uninterrupted room to honor your loss and gently tend to the changes unfolding within you. \nIn each gathering\, we will…\n\nEnter a quiet\, still space for contemplation and breathwork.\nBegin with a reading related to grief\, which may include psychoeducation\, poetry\, creative narrative\, or something else.\nHold a container for open sharing\, without response\, from those who wish to speak. Sometimes bearing witness to grief can be healing in itself-there is never pressure to share aloud.\nAt times engage in a narrative or art therapy activity to support grief processing and healing.\nIf time allows\, open to a group discussion on themes that arise\, with the intention of connecting in the raw experience of grief\, rather than dissecting the content of the grief.\nClose with an optional water-and-fire ceremony for releasing. Ritual can be a powerful way of tending grief\, but participation is always optional\, and may also be done privately\, in your own way.\n\nThis gathering might be for you if…\n\nYou are living with a significant loss—whether the death of a loved one\, the end of a relationship\, a chronic illness\, the loss of a job or role that shaped your identity\, releasing a dream you’ve held\, sorrow for suffering in the wider world\, or something else deeply personal.\nYou feel overwhelmed\, with emotions just beneath the surface\, and long for space to let them arise.\nYou have been grieving on your own and seek the support of community. Grief can feel profoundly lonely—even though it is part of our shared human experience.\n\nWhat you’ll walk away with…\n\nA clearer understanding and appreciation of grief’s tender yet powerful transformative nature.\nA sense of community and connection through shared human experience.\nInsight into the many faces and phases of grief: as deep sorrow\, overwhelming anger\, raw expansion and openness\, flat listlessness\, beautiful awe\, or something uniquely your own.\n\nTo register\nPlease complete the form below. We’ll set up a secure client portal for you using your date of birth where you can complete registration. Please note that your seat is not reserved for this event until you have completed the documents in your client portal and paid the cost of this event. \n\n← Back Thank you for your response. ✨\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n\n\nName(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nEmail(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nBirthdate (required for portal registration) (YYYY-MM-DD)(required)\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\nWhat are you able to pay for this event? She has spent years experiencing\, studying\, and learning how to hold and honor the deeply transformative power of grief within herself and her clients. \nKelsey believes that to create and hold space for grief (big and small) is one of the most important things we can do in seeking wholeness and healing within ourselves. She wishes that we\, as many other cultures\, prioritized a ritual to honor the transitions we are experiencing—each of which bring forward a face of grief if we allow it. \nWhile we often think of grief as a narrow list of life events\, Kelsey believes that grief arises in us on a daily basis\, is cumulative\, and if untended\, eats away at our soul. She has a deep respect and reverence for the many expressions of grief and is looking forward to holding space with other humans who are on their journeys to finding more healing and wholeness.
